POSITION SUMMARY:

The Refinery Chemical Operations Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing equipment and facilities, including field apparatus, ensuring adherence to quality standards and compliance with established operating procedures.

Key responsibilities include upholding safety protocols at all times and executing emergency procedures when required. The Specialist will also conduct basic maintenance and repairs on operational equipment. Job functions are carried out in control rooms, laboratory settings, and various operational areas of the facility.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Initiate and conclude (both normal and emergency) operations of plant systems and components.

2. Operate, observe, and regulate plant systems; visually assess and monitor equipment and process conditions.

3. Prepare equipment for maintenance activities.

4. Review, adhere to, and, if qualified, amend detailed operational, maintenance, and safety procedures.

5. Diagnose equipment issues to restore functionality.

6. Analyze logs and charts to detect potential or existing problems.

7. Identify system issues to stabilize the plant to standard operational conditions.

8. Train new operators in the area, emphasizing safety and environmental practices.

9. Manage the loading and unloading of railcars and tank trucks.

10. Conduct laboratory analyses of products.

11. Perform clerical tasks as necessary.

12. Operate mobile equipment.

13. Participate in or lead various site teams.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be willing and able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and short-notice call-ins if necessary.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Must be prepared to work in a high-hazard environment; both outdoors and indoors, at elevated heights and in confined spaces.


Must be willing to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed boots, hard hats, protective eyewear, face shields, respirators, and chemical suits.


Must be capable of climbing stairs and ladders; standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling; possess visual acuity for close work; able to reach overhead; and able to hear and respond to alarms.
