Job Title: Paraprofessional

At the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, we are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Paraprofessional to join our team. As a Paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational process and providing assistance to students with special needs.

Job Summary:

The Paraprofessional will work under the supervision of a certified professional to increase the quality of instruction to students. This will involve performing various instructional and non-instructional tasks, such as assisting with personal care services, preparing instructional materials, and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist students with personal care services, such as toileting and feeding, as needed.
  2. Prepare and operate instructional equipment and materials, including audio/visual equipment and computers.
  3. Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment, including cleaning and organizing the classroom and diaper changing areas.
  4. Assist with data collection and attendance records, and maintain confidentiality as required.
  5. Participate in parent/teacher conferences and IEP conferences, as requested.
  6. Interact and assist in the supervision of students during work-instructed assignments, play activities, and emergency drills.
  7. Perform reinforcement instructional services, including reinforcing activities in the visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive areas.
  8. Follow and implement IEPs, including behavioral intervention plans, under the direction of the certified professional.
  9. Attend training as required for the performance of the job, including NCI, CPR, and First Aid.
  10. Accompany the teacher and students on field trips or community-based instruction during the school day.
Requirements:
  • Associates Degree or equivalent number of college credits (60) or a PATTAN Paraeducator Certificate.
  • 1-2 years' experience working with children with special needs, preferred.
  • Training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid, preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of the educational team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
  • Ability to prioritize identified needs of students by following directives of classroom teachers, staff, and peers, as well as the goals of the IEP.

  • Be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to sit on preschool-size chairs and floor as necessary.
  • Walk up and down stairs, walk/run to implement services.
  • Be able to lift, carry, push, and pull 35 pounds.
  • Be able to kneel, crouch, bend, and reach to retrieve and handle teaching materials and supplies and interact and facilitate the learning of the students.
  • Be able to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating.
  • Be able to hear clearly.
  • Adequate vision to perform duties.
