Job Title: Senior Behavioral Health Emergency

Butte County, CA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Behavioral Health Emergency professional to join our team. As a key member of our Behavioral Health Department, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional care and support to individuals in need.

Job Summary:

The Senior Behavioral Health Emergency will be responsible for coordinating, leading, and participating in the work of staff providing professional nursing and psychiatric care to individuals striving to overcome behavioral health challenges. This includes collaborating with other medical staff and interdisciplinary health treatment teams to evaluate and prepare treatment plans, providing direction and oversight of nursing activities as assigned, and performing related work as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform Behavioral Health Emergency and Forensic Senior Psychiatric Nurse duties in a locked facility with constant and direct patient interaction.
  • Assess patients upon admission to unit and make presentation of physical and mental condition findings to attending physicians.
  • Provide professional nursing care to patients, observing and charting vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Administer oral and hypodermic medications and observe and record their effects.
  • Participate in the preparation of the nursing component of patient treatment plans, including physical assessments on new patients.
  • Perform crisis intervention, in person and on the phone, management of assaultive behavior, and general supportive counseling.
  • Provide supportive services, including individual, group, or family counseling, and various group activities such as exercise and art.
  • Confers with medical, mental health, and inter-agency staff regarding client needs and ways of improving staff's ability to impact on clients.
  • May serve as case coordinator for assigned patients or clients.
  • Participates in case conferences and provides input regarding mental health cases and problems.
  • Maintains prescribed standards of mental health treatment and ensures services are rendered in conformance with policy and procedural guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited educational institution with major coursework in nursing, psychology, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in psychiatric nursing, including experience as a charge or lead nurse.
  • Possession of a valid Registered Nursing license issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Possession of a valid CPR/AED certification.
  • Must possess a valid US driver's license upon date of application.
