Position Overview

The Pipeline Materials Team, part of the Pipeline Data division at Kinder Morgan, is tasked with the crucial responsibility of validating the Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) for natural gas pipelines. This is achieved through meticulous documentation of traceable, verifiable, and comprehensive material and pressure testing records in accordance with PHMSA regulations outlined in 49 CFR Part 192, as well as for liquid pipelines under 49 CFR Part 195. The current initiative is executed by a dedicated team of data analysts focused on the collection, compilation, analysis, and verification of engineering and material records essential for supporting pipeline MAOP/MOP.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Manager of the Pipeline Materials Team and will oversee a team of 4-6 data analyst contractors. Key responsibilities include:
  • Verification of MAOP/MOP records for pipelines, components, and facilities;
  • Representation of the Pipeline Materials Team during PHMSA and internal audits;
  • Addressing pipeline project inquiries and internal engineering data requests;
  • Analysis of MAOP/MOP for high-pressure pipeline segments;
  • Enhancement of verification processes and methodologies;
  • Training of analysts, design engineers, and field support personnel;
  • Collaboration with other teams within the Pipeline Data Group to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of pipeline data.
**This position may be filled at various levels based on the experience and skills of the selected candidate.**

Position Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must possess:
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution;
  • 5-7 years of experience in the pipeline industry;
  • A professional license or the ability to obtain one is preferred but not mandatory;
  • Experience in pipeline data and MAOP/MOP validation is highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with pipeline data management systems such as PODS and GIS;
  • Knowledge of pipeline materials and yield strength calculations;
  • Understanding of PHMSA regulations under 49 CFR Part 192/195;
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to pipeline field offices;
  • A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record;
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and a comprehensive background check post-offer.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with various teams;
