Job Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care by dispensing medications, advising healthcare professionals, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
- Dispense medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
- Control medications by monitoring drug therapies and advising interventions.
- Complete pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, and verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
- Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals and counseling patients on drug therapies.
- Develop hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.
- Comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
- Protect patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols and related procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with a BS Pharm or PharmD Degree.
- Completion of pharmacy internship and holds state licensure.
- One year of hospital pharmacy experience (preferred).
Work Schedule:
Part-time schedule with variable daily work times and 40 hours per pay period.
On-Call and Weekend Requirements:
Yes, on-call and weekend shifts are required.
