Position Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Senior Physical Therapist is tasked with overseeing formal responsibilities across a service line, shift, and/or multiple clinics while also serving as a clinical authority.

This role involves conducting patient evaluations, formulating care plans, and delivering treatments for a diverse array of diagnoses and complexities, or within a specialized service line.

The Senior Physical Therapist is responsible for gathering metrics, analyzing data, and reporting findings, while also spearheading process and quality enhancement initiatives.

This position acts as a mentor and resource for team members, utilizing expertise to train and develop others, ensuring optimal performance across the assigned service line, shift, and/or clinics.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct quality assurance evaluations of staff performance, providing constructive feedback to management regarding team effectiveness and identifying areas for development. Oversee patient care provided by assigned physical therapists to guarantee safety and exceptional customer service.

Serve as the primary liaison between management and staff for routine matters, coordinating activities for the service line, shift, and/or clinics, and engaging in service expansion, business development, and research initiatives.

Team Leadership
Foster a positive work atmosphere, leading a cohesive team focused on achieving departmental objectives. Establish and maintain professional relationships built on trust and credibility with all healthcare team members, acting as the main point of contact for physicians within the service area.

Exemplify therapeutic communication through active listening and education, collaborating effectively with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team to develop comprehensive care plans.

Implement protocols and objectives with team members to enhance staff performance, teamwork, patient safety, and customer service. Provide ongoing feedback to management regarding team member performance and development.

Clinical Expertise
Conduct thorough evaluations of patients to determine their functional levels and create individualized care plans. Deliver advanced therapy treatments, acting as the clinical expert for complex patient assessments and interventions.

Educate patients and their families based on identified learning needs, adapting teaching methods to ensure comprehension. Advocate for patients and families, addressing clinical and ethical concerns through appropriate channels.

Quality and Safety Management
Regularly assess patients, monitor progress towards treatment goals, and adjust plans as necessary to optimize outcomes. Coordinate and report on various quality and safety metrics for the practice area, developing initiatives to enhance patient experiences.

Financial Accountability
Ensure accurate documentation of patient education and procedures in a timely manner. Enter charges for services provided and perform reconciliations as needed, serving as a resource for management regarding charge codes for physical therapy.

Professional Development
Lead department projects and initiatives, actively participating in community teaching opportunities and services. Identify self-development needs and pursue continuous learning to enhance professional practice.
