Role Summary:The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in supporting the nursing team by delivering both direct and indirect patient care. Physical capability to lift, reposition, and transport patients and equipment is essential.
Essential Skills & Competencies
Effective verbal and written communication skills are crucial. The ability to provide compassionate patient care and maintain composure in emergencies is required. Familiarity with medical terminology and proficiency in using computers and relevant software are necessary. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are also essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute all duties typical of a hospital technician, including but not limited to the collection and documentation of vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and patient repositioning.
- Perform various clerical functions, which may involve scheduling patient appointments and coordinating transportation.
- Collect and deliver medical specimens and supplies promptly as directed.
- Maintain and clean medical equipment, ensuring proper charging for supplies and reporting any equipment malfunctions to the nursing manager.
- Conduct venipuncture, blood glucose tests, and point-of-care testing following established protocols. Carry out computerized EKGs and ensure documentation is available for patient records.
- Assist registered nurses in addressing patients' elimination needs, including urinary catheter removal and administering enemas.
- Operate sterilization equipment and ensure proper sterilization of instruments, including identification and packaging.

Physical and Environmental Considerations
This role may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. Employees may handle potentially hazardous equipment and be exposed to biohazardous conditions, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols. The position may require working beyond standard hours and occasional travel to various locations. Physical demands include frequent bending, lifting up to 75 pounds, and continuous standing and walking.
No prior experience is necessary. Required Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the Mississippi State Department of Health; CPR certification (Heartsaver or BLS) must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
