Position Overview

Job Title: Advocate for Victims in Hispanic Communities
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Client Services
Reports to: Advocacy and Counseling Services Manager
Pay Rate: $43,077 per year / $20.71 per hour


Work Schedule

Typical work hours include Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM; Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM; and Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Flexibility for evening hours may be required to fulfill program objectives and provide essential services.


Key Responsibilities

Direct Services:

  • Provide direct advocacy and support to victims and secondary victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Assist program participants in assessing and addressing their needs, including safety planning and service development.
  • Lead outreach initiatives to identify and address the needs of the Hispanic community.
  • Facilitate support groups for Hispanic program participants.
  • Maintain knowledge of grant objectives and prepare necessary reports.
  • Translate materials to assist non-English speaking victims.
  • Keep accurate records of program participants.
  • Participate in monthly meetings.

Outreach and Marketing:

  • Coordinate equipment setup for educational and prevention activities.
  • Engage in community coalitions addressing issues of sexual and domestic violence.
  • Support community events aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Collaborate with various organizations to provide educational resources and workshops.

Supervision:

  • Assist in training and supervising agency volunteers as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in social services or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic data entry.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accurate record-keeping.
  • Ability to make independent decisions that benefit program participants and the agency.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and sensitivity regarding interpersonal crime issues.
  • Ability to respond to on-call situations within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to transport clients as necessary.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs.
