POSITION SUMMARY: The Strings Music Educator will deliver private and/or group lessons for students of varying ages and skill levels, supporting the Kroc Center Hawaii Creative Arts & Education department's mission to offer quality educational programs and training in the arts while guiding students towards Jesus.

The Strings Music Educator will exhibit a profound commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be reflected in their professional demeanor and the manner in which they represent The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center within the community.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field, or equivalent teaching experience.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in music instruction.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to engage and interact positively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Proven classroom management abilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepare all necessary syllabi, assignments, and lesson plans tailored to each individual, group, or program.
  • Select suitable music, literature, and instructional materials to enhance learning; communicate program supply needs to the Creative Arts & Education Manager.
  • Conduct all scheduled music lessons for each individual, group, or program, ensuring timely starts and finishes. Classes will be delivered in-person or virtually.
  • Demonstrate interest, dedication, and enthusiasm for enhancing the community through music education.
  • Assess each student's musical progress, performance, and understanding. Provide constructive and positive feedback to facilitate learning.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of end-of-session events and special performances; evaluate student and group skill levels for performance readiness.
  • Be present for and assist during end-of-session events and special performances.
  • Maintain student attendance records and other required documentation.
  • Engage with students, parents, volunteers, and staff, exhibiting positive and proactive attitudes, behaviors, and language.
  • Welcome participants and familiarize new students with class procedures.
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents and students regarding scheduling, program changes, and upcoming performances.
  • Ensure care and responsibility for program-owned instruments, music, and equipment to prevent loss or damage. Make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as necessary.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Adapt to a flexible work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Adhere to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Uphold the established Code of Ethics for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • The Strings Music Educator may be required to perform duties away from the Kroc Center Hawaii campus (i.e., performances, rehearsals, etc.).
MENTAL DEMANDS:

This role necessitates maintaining a positive and upbeat attitude to deliver excellent customer service. It requires an appreciation for individual uniqueness and diversity, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants. This position must maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule, capable of working with limited supervision and in collaboration with other professionals. Good judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask are essential. Attention to detail is crucial, with the ability to manage projects from inception to completion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The role involves sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, walking, and utilizing vision, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

This position requires interaction with co-workers, clients, and vendors; necessitates written communication to and from co-workers, clients, and vendors; involves telephone communication; requires responding to written or verbal requests from co-workers, clients, and vendors; necessitates training and providing verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; involves writing and composing written language; requires reading; necessitates visiting or working at other worksites; and requires communication through the latest technologies.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Equipment utilized includes general office tools such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephones (office and cell), video projectors, sound systems, microphones, audio-visual and lighting equipment, and 10-key calculators.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work will be conducted at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in West Oahu. Extensive travel may be required, including air travel, long-distance driving, night driving, and extended travel of three days or more.
