Breast Imaging Specialist

Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Breast Imaging Specialist plays a crucial role in providing direct patient care during various mammography procedures, including screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast stereotactic biopsies, needle localizations, and other related interventional tasks. It is essential for the specialist to maintain current credentials, engage in ongoing education, and adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements. Proficiency in various software applications is necessary to support clerical and nursing staff within the breast imaging practice.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Serve as a mentor and guide for new team members while assisting clerical and nursing personnel as required.
  • Facilitate patient communication and follow-up, track critical performance data, and ensure the reporting radiologist has all pertinent information. Provide patient education regarding breast center examinations and procedures.
  • Exhibit the ability to deliver care/service safely and effectively for each patient.
  • Possess knowledge and capability to comply with mandatory regulatory standards.
  • Maintain all necessary licensing and certifications, including CPR, ensuring they are up to date to avoid potential disciplinary actions.
  • Complete required educational assignments as directed by supervisors.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment, perform necessary safety protocols, and maintain proper hygiene practices.
  • May assist other medical personnel with patient support as needed.
  • Conduct all aspects of direct patient care while performing breast imaging examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare reports and departmental materials using various office equipment and software, demonstrating competence with imaging and hospital systems.
  • Utilize breast imaging equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Must be capable of performing the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the assigned department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Mammography.
Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist (LRT) - Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association.
  • Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Mammography (M) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Image Wisley Pledge - American College of Radiology volume competencies.
Knowledge Requirements
  • Training in 3D Tomosynthesis.
  • Familiarity with Stereo techniques.
