Electro-Optical Engineer III Job Description

Amentum is seeking an experienced Electro-Optical Engineer III to support the PM Soldier Survivability project office under Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier, Natick, MA. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic and cohesive team focused on providing and rapidly delivering enhanced protection, individual equipment, and aviation life support capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a laser and electro-optic engineer, providing technical services and recommendations for executing Soldier head, body, or weapons-mounted sensor programs.
  • Provides technical support and analysis in the evaluation of sensor prototypes and systems, including thermal imagers and image intensifiers.
  • Translates military operational and mission requirements into practical system concepts and performance specifications.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation, such as specifications, engineering drawings, system interface requirements, and engineering changes.
  • Participates in post-award, program reviews, design reviews, and IPTs as the project engineer and/or technical expert on assigned programs.
  • Evaluates design efforts to ensure integration of all engineering disciplines and adequacy of analyses performed, optimizing size, weight, and power with cost (SWaP-C).
  • Reviews test plans, procedures, and reports for technical adequacy on assigned programs, for both Government and contractor tests, as well as all failure reports.
  • Conducts and/or monitors lab, contractor, and field testing to assess system performance and compliance with requirements.
  • Makes recommendations and presents briefings and conducts demonstrations to senior-level managers in Government and industry at program manager, SES, and General Officer levels.
  • Initiates and reviews engineering change proposals and waivers/deviations for technical merit and conducts physical and functional configuration audits.
  • Determines or evaluates analysis needed to investigate failures or performance issues and ensures appropriate and complete root cause corrective action is identified, validated, and implemented in all products as required.
  • Recommends approaches to implement electro-optic system-level components into prototypes capable of achieving user requirements.
  • Coordinates R&D efforts with DOD, National Labs, and appropriate international forums to leverage resources.
  • Reviews program management documents to ensure accuracy and adequacy of technical content.
  • Serves as a consultant to other team members and mentors the workforce on electro-optic system development, prototyping, integrating, and testing electro-optic sensor systems.
  • Evaluates system electro-optic engineering technologies used on past programs and establishes new and innovative engineering strategies.
  • Identifies issues and briefs the PM on possible courses of action and their impact.
Qualifications:
  • BS Electrical or Optics Engineering or Equivalent and ten (10) years relevant experience.
  • Has the breadth of experience and knowledge to lead engineering efforts on assigned programs and work independently with minimal oversight from the Government Lead.
Required Clearance:

Secret. Please note US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Government Clearance.
