Job DescriptionAs a Lead Carpenter at DC Builders, you will be responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction, managing material take-offs and orders, supervising jobsites, and overseeing carpentry labor. You will also be responsible for coordinating with subcontractors, conducting inspections, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure company and customer satisfaction through professional appearance, expert workmanship, and polite communication.
- Attend all company/client meetings approved by the Project Manager/Site Super.
- Actively participate in pre-construction conferences and pre-completion walk-throughs with clients and/or Project Managers.
- Create an anticipated project schedule (critical path) in advance of project commencement, adjust schedule as needed based on production realities.
- Inform the Project Manager/Site Super of project progress, including customer concerns, problems, delays, etc., on a daily basis.
- Supervise the activities of company field carpenters and/or independent subcontractors, including oral and written communication as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe jobsite at all times, ensuring crew members work in a safe manner, taking all reasonable precautions.
- Post daily project reports internally on BuilderTrend Daily Logs.
- Take daily production photos on BuilderTrend and OpenSpace, delegating to team members if necessary.
- Be responsible for the efficient and profitable use of company time, manpower, and materials on each project.
- Track project progress and profitability, reporting to the Project Manager/Site Super.
- Ensure the company image is supported by the appearance and activities of installation teams and jobsites.
- Maintain an operational inventory of necessary tools, safety equipment, equipment, and vehicles to perform specific activities assigned by the Project Manager/Site Super.
- Attend seminars and shows to obtain new product knowledge and installation procedures, as required.
- Seek additional responsibility and guidance from company management employees as needed to enhance existing skills, learn new skills, and create potential for advancement within the company.
- Coordinate placement of jobsite signs at the start of a job and remove upon completion.
- Perform all carpentry labor and assign tasks to carpenters, coworkers, and helpers, ensuring work is done in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Coordinate with the office to manage subcontractors, providing ample lead time and ensuring timely inspections.
- Anticipate ongoing needed materials, supplies, and drawings well in advance, creating material lists and arranging for delivery/pickup in will-call.
- Check material deliveries for accuracy in quantity and measurement, as well as for any quality problems or damage.
- Track and enter all jobsite activities in Project Management software.
- Accurately detail job details on timesheets, ensuring all other employees do the same.
- Recycle and/or re-use materials economically possible.
- Review all customer change orders with the PM/Site Super, ensuring accurate pricing and signed change orders prior to work completion.
- Walk through jobsites with Project Managers and/or clients to ensure all items are completed, comparing plans and contract specs as an additional verification.
- Coordinate with the office, client, or owner rep to schedule necessary inspections with the building department.
- As the job nears completion, create a punch-list of outstanding items for the Project Manager, aiming for a zero-punch-list job.
- Leave the jobsite neat and clean, removing all tools, garbage cans, and jobsite signs.
- Actively participate in weekly production meetings with all team members.
- During rain periods, report to the jobsite with Carpenters Helpers and cover exposed areas of houses with tarps/plastic covers, minimizing water entry.
- Gather receipts of expenses and categorize them accordingly for billing.
- Coordinate daily with Safety Coordinators to ensure safety meetings and requirements are held to OSHA standards, documented, and stored in the Safety Dropbox folder.
