Tax Examination Technician

Job Summary

This position is located in the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The selected candidate will serve as a Tax Examination Technician in the Small Business/Self-Employed (SB/SE) Division, Technical Services Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Protect the confidentiality of taxpayer information and disclose it only as authorized by law.
  • Assign, update, and close cases on Examination Returns Control System (ERCS), Audit Information Management System (AIMS), and Report Generation System (RGS) as necessary.
  • Request and review Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS)/AIMS printouts and transcripts to aid in processing cases.
  • Complete procedural and limited technical review of Examination cases involving simple tax issues.
  • Review and complete procedural review of non-docketed Appeals cases and take appropriate case closing actions.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national and provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Must undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check.
  • Must complete a suitability determination at the time requested by the agency.
  • Must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process.

Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Experience must have included analyzing and resolving problems, adjusting accounts, and providing information on financial issues.

This position is located in various locations, including Oklahoma City, OK; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX; and other locations.
