Firefighter/Paramedic

Bernalillo County is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Firefighter/Paramedic to join our team. As a Firefighter/Paramedic, you will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, providing medical care, and fighting fires. You will work closely with our team to ensure the safety of our community and provide exceptional service.

• Respond to emergency calls and provide medical care to patients
• Fight fires and protect life and property
• Participate in fire prevention activities, including inspections and pre-fire planning
• Prepare and compile necessary documentation to support duties and responsibilities
• Maintain apparatus, quarters, building, equipment, grounds, and hydrants at assigned station
• Participate in public education and public relations activities and on-duty training
• Drive vehicles other than engines and aerial apparatus during training and to the scene of emergencies

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic certification and licensure by the State of New Mexico
• Valid New Mexico driver's license
• Ability to administer emergency medical services according to approved techniques and procedures
• Ability to work as a member of a team in stressful situations
• Ability to learn and understand firefighting principles and apply them as instructed
• Ability to operate and provide minimal maintenance/servicing of fire and EMS equipment

• Employees are required to work shifts as stipulated within the Collective Bargaining agreement and determined based on the needs of the Department as set forth by the Fire Chief
• Employee performs work indoors and/or outdoors as the situation dictates
• Employee may be exposed to temperature extremes, high noise levels, and hazardous materials
• Employee works on uneven ground surfaces, stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
