Job Summary

Reporting to the Capital Supervisor, the Protecting Foreman plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of railway property and construction zones. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills to direct work groups and ensure compliance with railway operating rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily job briefings to ensure contractors understand site-specific instructions and safety protocols.
  • Review work sites daily to identify potential hazards and consult with supervisors and contractors to mitigate risks.
  • Set up, reposition, and dismantle railway signals (flags) at designated locations.
  • Communicate effectively with work groups, flagmen, and rail traffic controllers to ensure understanding of instructions and track protection limits.
  • Operate company vehicles and perform daily maintenance and inspections.
  • Perform special duties as assigned by the Capital Supervisor.
  • Document work activities and maintain accurate records.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the railway industry.
  • Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset.
  • Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a safety-sensitive position directing work groups on live railway corridors.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations, and safety precautions.
  • Valid Ontario class G driver's license.
Working Conditions

This role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. The Protecting Foreman must be able to stand, walk, climb, balance, lift, and bend on uneven terrain. The position also involves exposure to loud noise, live track/trains, and high voltage.
