Job Summary:The Patient Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transportation of patients, specimens, supplies, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destination. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Verify correct patient identification using two patient identifiers and compare the information with the assignment information.
- Ensure the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients to their destination using equipment that is safe and proper for that transport.
- Utilize proper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients to and from wheelchairs, gurneys, exam tables, chairs, and beds.
- Transport patients to and from various departments, including nursing units, operating rooms, and diagnostic areas.
- Assist nursing staff with transferring patients to and from bed or chair to wheelchair or gurney.
- Notify nursing personnel, clinical staff, technicians, or receptionists upon arrival of a patient.
- Ensure the comfort and dignity of patients by being attentive, offering blankets, and covering patients properly.
- Only engage in appropriate conversation with patients and do not transport patients who are experiencing moderate to severe pain.
- Report any equipment needing repair and maintain confidentiality of patients in accordance with hospital policy.
- Collect and return transportation equipment to proper storage place.
- Respond to emergency situations in accordance with hospital policy.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent required.
- Experience in the janitorial industry or medical cleaning a plus.
- Post-Offer Medical, Background Screening, and Drug Test required.
