Terran Orbital is seeking a highly experienced Chief Mission Engineer to lead our team in the development of cutting-edge space domain systems. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for managing multiple discipline roles, including mission responsibility and authority for design, analysis, manufacturing, verification, validation, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams, ensuring the successful development and implementation of space domain systems.
  • System Design and Development: Design and develop optimal space vehicle architectures and detailed mission solutions to complex space domain challenges for various remote sensing, RF, and optical applications.
  • Customer and Supplier Engagement: Lead and participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers to ensure mission success and drive business growth.
  • Engineering Artifacts and Tools: Develop engineering artifacts and tools that support interoperability with flexible and state-of-the-art architectures.
  • Lifecycle Management: Establish and execute lifecycle best practices, frameworks, guidelines, and processes to ensure the successful development and operation of space domain systems.
  • Competitiveness Assessment: Perform capabilities benchmarking and competitiveness assessment to identify areas for improvement and drive innovation.
  • Mission Roadmaps and Technology Vision: Develop and implement mission roadmaps and technology vision/strategy synthesis, insertion, deployment, and overall capability monitoring and management.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Utilize subject matter expertise and apply surge support for the troubleshooting of focus areas.
  • Knowledge Capture and Transfer: Ensure knowledge capture and knowledge transfer by working with and mentoring engineering members.
  • Special Projects: Engage and support company tactical and strategic special projects.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's degree in engineering or physical sciences.
  • Experience: 15+ years of experience as a technical leader of multifunctional teams within space-domain missions.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrate a proven track record of applying successful expertise to sophisticated missions.
  • Decision-Making: Demonstrate ability to make complex critical decisions promptly.
  • Leadership: Experience leading complex initiatives, with a proven track record of collaboration and coordination across internal and external stakeholder organizations.
  • Communication: Proven ability to deliver effective communication verbally, written, and through well-crafted presentations across all levels of an organization, including executive leadership.
  • Self-Governance: Ability to self-govern with minimal supervision, establish workload priorities, and utilize efficient time management practices to achieve programmatic or strategic initiatives.

  • Technical Leadership: Demonstrate experience and success with technical leadership of launched or operational space domain systems.
