Company Overview:
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) is seeking a qualified Welding Inspector to enhance our operational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
The selected individual will undertake the following duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of welds and perform limited dimensional assessments on fabricated components, assemblies, and procured parts.
  • Execute in-process inspections, final evaluations, and routine assessments on fabricated, subcontracted, and/or purchased items.
  • Verify proper identification and dimensions utilizing basic measuring tools and instruments, demonstrating proficient computer skills.
  • Possess a solid understanding of shop mathematics and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) as per ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Maintain and manage all welding MI re-certifications, including achieving welding certifications for various materials.

Additional Duties:
The role may also include:

  • Familiarity with and the ability to learn the operation of all measuring instruments, tools, and gauges necessary for various welding inspections.
  • Monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures.
  • Potentially performing Tool & Gage calibration.
  • Assisting in training new personnel in various inspection techniques.
  • Maintaining communication with external vendors for specific tasks.
  • Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Process and documentation of results.
  • Conducting Special Process Evaluations as required.
  • Adhering to proper procedures and precautions to prevent damage to equipment and ensure safety.
  • Documenting errors or discrepancies in a clear and organized manner.
  • Participating in internal and external audits as necessary.
  • Keeping accurate records of inspection results.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be able to:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods, up to 10+ hours per day.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment including steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and respirators when necessary.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience, along with specialized training in specific job functions.
  • The ability to read blueprints and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience with basic measuring devices such as micrometers, gauges, and calipers.
  • Familiarity with AWS standards and associated manufacturing standards.
  • Knowledge of MIL standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to support varying work schedules, including overtime and alternate shifts.
  • The ability to pass visual acuity and color perception exams.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Government Secret security clearance.

Desired Skills:
Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in various fabrication areas or previous inspection roles.
  • Proficiency in using Lockheed Martin tools such as SAP, Apriso, Command Media, PAL, and Windchill.
  • Technical writing skills for documenting issues.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000/AS9100 standards.

Work Environment:
This position requires onsite work at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedule:
The role typically follows a 4x10 hour schedule, allowing for three days off each week.
