Assistant Store Manager Job Description

At Smart Foodservice Stores LLC, we're seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Store Manager to join our team. As a key member of our store leadership, you'll play a vital role in driving sales growth, improving customer satisfaction, and ensuring operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coach employees to provide exceptional customer service and maintain a clean, safe, and organized store environment.
  • Address personnel and performance issues, including coaching, verbal and written warnings, and consulting with Store Manager and HR on next steps.
  • Ensure compliance with personnel policies and procedures, and understand the mechanics of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and how operations translate into the monthly Profit and Loss (P&L).
  • Assist in the AOP budgeting process, achieve budgeted sales and profits, and manage shrinkage with a focus on front-end processes.
  • Participate in the annual inventory process, including preparation and execution of inventory guidelines.
  • Train front-end employees and other staff on required programs, and ensure all staff comply with company policies, procedures, and store SOPs.
  • Interview, hire, orient, and train assigned employee groups, and provide day-to-day direction to floor employees, including schedules, store goals, sales, and shrinkage targets.
  • Plan in-store demonstrations, including preparation and setup of demo carts/displays, distribution of product samples, and utilization of strong suggestive selling techniques.
  • Assist in overseeing the receiving of product, return of damaged or expired product, and timely restocking of shelves.
  • Maintain merchandising programs within the store, including promotional ends, signage, and company-specific programs.
  • Communicate with store employees about merchandising and marketing programs, and oversee execution and follow-up reporting.
Requirements:
  • A two-year college degree or equivalent work experience required; a degree in Business Management, Supply Chain/Wholesale Management, or Accounting/Finance strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in a retail work environment required; at least two years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to think quickly and critically, make good business decisions, and demonstrate good common sense.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and self-drive, and possess solid communication and conversational skills, negotiation skills, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Competency and proficiency with computer applications and Microsoft programs.
