Position Overview

This role encompasses essential clerical, administrative, and clinical responsibilities within the guidelines established by state regulations. The individual may be designated to a specific clinic/provider or may rotate among various clinics/providers based on operational requirements. It is crucial to exhibit a collaborative spirit and effective communication with physicians, providers, fellow team members, patients, and the community while executing all job functions. The Medical Assistant (MA) is expected to prioritize customer service and contribute to fostering a work environment that aligns with the mission, vision, and values of Heritage Medical Associates, along with maintaining high ethical standards and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties
  • Collects clinical information through direct patient interaction and telephonic communication, ensuring accurate documentation in the clinical record to track medical treatment effectively.
  • Alerts the physician/provider and/or Registered Nurse of any significant patient status changes, abnormal findings, or pending lab results, and is prepared to administer CPR if necessary.
  • Triages patients effectively, whether in-person or via phone, and communicates pertinent issues to the physician/provider promptly.
  • Administers medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols, ensuring correct dosages and thorough documentation in the patient's medical record.
  • Conducts CLIA-waived tests as required and adheres to established laboratory protocols for handling specimens.
  • Utilizes various medical equipment proficiently to deliver patient care and assists physicians/providers during patient encounters and procedures.
  • Manages prescription requests and maintains inventory of sample medications, ensuring compliance with safety and storage regulations.
Administrative Duties
  • Ensures timely processing of sterile instruments following established protocols.
  • Schedules patient appointments accurately, collecting necessary demographic information and informing patients of financial responsibilities.
  • Confirms provider insurance participation and manages appointment logistics to optimize patient flow.
  • Completes patient referrals and authorizations promptly, following up on pre-authorizations as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace, adhering to quality control guidelines.
Clerical Duties
  • Handles incoming calls professionally, ensuring all inquiries are addressed within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Orders necessary supplies to maintain uninterrupted patient care services.
  • Completes required documentation accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
Customer Service
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and respect in all interactions with patients and team members.
  • Exhibits a commitment to addressing customer needs and providing exceptional service.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program or equivalent experience in a clinical setting.
  • Current CPR certification is mandatory.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required for float positions.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and assisting patients.
  • Exposure to clinical environments and potential health risks associated with patient care.
