About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Railcar Repair Technician to join our team at Rescar Companies in Decatur, AL. As a key member of our rail transportation group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our railcar repair and switching services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Switching Operations: Read and follow switching instructions to ensure accurate track assignments and car movements.
  • Locomotive/Trackmobile Operations: Operate locomotives and trackmobiles to start or stop trains, using hand signals, lanterns, or two-way radio communication.
  • Inspection and Maintenance: Inspect couplings, air hoses, and bandbrakes to ensure secure fastening and proper functioning. Identify and repair defects in tracks, cars, and engines.
  • Component Repair and Replacement: Inspect, repair, and replace defective or worn components on railcar equipment, including truck assemblies, safety appliances, brake systems, wheels, and draft systems.
  • Diagnostic and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and identify malfunctions in railcar equipment and systems.
  • Quality Control: Ensure proper operation and maintenance of railcar equipment and systems.
Requirements
  • 1-3 years of experience in railcar repair, switching, or a similar field.
  • A good work ethic and strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Previous mechanic experience desired.
  • Familiarity with welding a plus.
  • Updated background check and drug test.
