Custodial Deputy Sheriff II

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Custodial Deputy Sheriff II to join our team at Merced County, CA. As a key member of our law enforcement team, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of our facilities, as well as providing exceptional service to the community.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce correctional rules and regulations, ensuring the safety and security of incarcerated individuals and staff.
- Process bookings, discharges, and transfers, and arrange for transportation as necessary.
- Conduct strip searches, cursory searches, and body scans for contraband, weapons, or narcotics.
- Classify and place incarcerated individuals in the proper cell, conduct roll calls, and maintain records.
- Ensure cells, dorms, laundry facilities, restrooms, and grounds are kept sanitary.
- Escort and guard incarcerated individuals to and from work details, court, and hospital or outpatient facilities.
- Maintain discipline and keep order among incarcerated individuals.
- Open and censor incoming mail, answer inquiries, and provide information on correctional facility policies.
- Participate in investigations, collect and secure evidence, and prepare reports.
- Operate video and audio equipment to secure access and ensure safety and security.
- Provide supervision of individuals on community supervision, including pre-trial monitoring and electronic monitoring.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including serving civil paperwork and assisting in civil processes.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Two years of experience equivalent to Custodial Deputy Sheriff I in Merced County, or three years of experience involving continuous and direct supervision, direction, and counseling of others in a treatment, rehabilitative, or regimented atmosphere.
- Successful completion of the Adult Corrections Officer Core Course and possession of a valid California Penal Code 832 Certificate and valid First Aid and CPR Certificates.
- Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's license at the time of appointment.
- Eligibility for appointment or certification as a peace officer under the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and maintenance of eligibility as a peace officer with POST.
