A thorough understanding is required to evaluate, interpret, and make informed decisions based on diverse facts or situations. This position is primarily focused within the Property and Casualty (P&C) Accounting sector.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts monthly, quarterly, and annual processing of financial data for related reporting obligations.
- Responds to inquiries from management, auditors, and regulatory entities.
- Prepares, reviews, and files regulatory submissions.
- Develops responses for external auditors, state examiners, and regulatory requests.
- Generates various analytical reports as required by management throughout the fiscal year.
- Assists in the preparation and review of departmental responsibilities.
- Supports other Accounting divisions with accounting challenges and special initiatives.
- Mentors and aids in supervising Accounting personnel.
- Collaborates closely with the P&C Accounting team in the preparation of financial reporting requirements.
- Responsible for the monthly processing, review, analysis, and reconciliation of all statistical data essential for financial statements, including premiums, losses, reserves, and reinsurance.
- Prepares internal monthly financial reports.
- Handles the calculation and application of annual intercompany allocations.
- Manages the property and casualty reinsurance program, including calculations, ledger entries, payments, and reporting.
- Ensures compliance with schedules in quarterly and annual statements prepared according to NAICs Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAPs).
- Reconciles bank statements and accounts on a monthly basis.
- Oversees the management of the general ledger system, including the approval of new accounts and maintenance of accounting periods.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Typically requires 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Skills in analyzing, organizing, and prioritizing tasks while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Proficient in analyzing, consolidating, and interpreting financial data.
- Experience in planning, assigning, and supervising the work of others.
- Strong situational analysis and judgment in making critical decisions.
- Competence in filing, bookkeeping, recording, and computational tasks.
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or relevant insurance designations are preferred.
