The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students who require instructional and behavioral support under the guidance of the special education department. This position may also involve providing essential services to help students with personal care, mobility, and therapeutic needs as directed by healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement IEP objectives in areas such as mathematics, reading, speech, and independent living skills, either individually or as part of a classroom team.
- Support teacher-led educational activities, including lesson plans, worksheets, reinforcement strategies, small group work, and social interaction games.
- Assist students in general education settings.
- Relay important information to educators regarding student progress and needs.
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, and community activities.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning all student-related matters.
- Support prescribed programs developed by related service personnel, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.
- Facilitate the development of independent living skills through self-care activities.
- Assist in implementing behavior management strategies as directed by educational professionals.
- Help with clerical tasks such as preparing materials, making copies, and maintaining an organized classroom environment.
- Assist with student mobility and transfers.
- Report any changes in student status as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Adhere to all relevant professional standards.
- Complete Amergis' Competency program as applicable.
- Current CPR certification, if required.
- Health screening as mandated.
- Meet all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Successfully complete new hire training relevant to the position.
- Understand and comply with patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and proficiency in English.
- Possess basic computer skills.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
