Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Development Scientist to join our team at Kelly Science, Engineering, Technology & Telecom. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for developing new and existing processes for on-site production under the guidance of line management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and review new product procedures from PD Manager and/or R&D, making necessary lab batches for comparison with R&D samples and contacting R&D chemists to discuss any problems and possible solutions.
  • Recommend modifications to procedures for future pilot scale-up, sample lab batches for Quality Control testing, and compile final lab batch data for PD Manager to assist in decision making for further scale-up.
  • Assist PD Manager in monitoring pilot batches, answering questions from QC personnel and pilot operator on testing and manufacturing of new pilot products from knowledge of product chemistry and lab bench experience.
  • Develop new methods for production of current products for increased profits, waste minimization, quality, and environmental reasons.
  • Help PD Manager in finding causes and solutions for production problems, requiring multiple lab batches to investigate the problem or develop a solution.
  • Support new technologies by product comparison of current manufacturing methods and new manufacturing technologies, and help Quality Control Lab with developing testing methods on new lab equipment for product testing.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemistry or equivalent science degree, with courses in Organic Chemistry, Statistics, Math & Computers required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing plant/lab setting, organic synthesis, and process scale-up required.
  • Experience with lab equipment and quality analysis of samples using acid or base titrations, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and solids analyzer.
  • Basic engineering or mechanical understanding of a chemical manufacturing plant helpful, as well as knowledge of site processes, SHE & QA systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional classes in Instrumental Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Environmental Science preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP or equivalent systems.
  • Initiative, attention to detail, problem solving, problem analysis, planning and organizing, and ability to prioritize workload.
