Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Insurance Specialist to join our team at Houston Methodist. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining and recording eligibility and benefit information for patients receiving services, and will play a key role in ensuring timely and accurate financial clearance of all accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Insurance Verification: Obtain and record eligibility and benefit information for patients receiving services, and ensure that all necessary authorizations are in place.
  • Financial Clearance: Ensure that all accounts are financially secure, and that all necessary documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other stakeholders to resolve complex patient access and quality service matters.
  • Training and Development: Train and mentor new team members, and participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Three years of insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office components, knowledge of electronic health record software, and ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of medical terminology, knowledge of insurance requirements for physician visits and procedures, and ability to review clinical documentation for Medical Necessity and payer requirements.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and will be expected to adapt to changing demands and priorities.
