POSITION SUMMARY: The Science and Mathematics Education program, situated within the School of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Sciences (STLES) at Oklahoma State University, is in search of a distinguished scholar and exceptional education leader. We welcome candidates at the associate or full professor level, with outstanding candidates at the full professor rank being considered for the prestigious Morsani Endowed Chair in Science Education. We are particularly interested in individuals with a proven track record of securing external funding and a commitment to mentoring within our dynamic Science and Mathematics Education program.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The Science and Mathematics Education (SMED) program is dedicated to preparing students for leadership roles in both formal and informal educational environments. Faculty members engage in collaborative partnerships with local schools and participate in research initiatives through the Center for Research on STEM Teaching and Learning (CRSTL), providing unique research opportunities. Faculty in science education are responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in science education across elementary and secondary education programs, offering both on-campus and online courses, as well as graduate-level courses supporting Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. This faculty member will join a dedicated team of researchers, educators, and grant writers actively involved in various national organizations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The new faculty member should exhibit a commitment to the university's land grant mission and aspire to positively influence the community through service, outreach, and extension activities. Specifically, the faculty member should aim to become a leader within STLES, CEHS, and the broader community in relation to special education. Building strong relationships with K-12 educational institutions and actively participating in regional, national, and international Science Education research organizations is essential.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering undergraduate and graduate courses;
- Engaging in scholarly activities that lead to grants, presentations, and publications;
- Recruiting and mentoring junior faculty and graduate students;
- Participating in committee service at the department, college, university, and community levels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• An earned doctorate in Science Education or a related field;
• A well-established and sustained research agenda;
• A history of successful external funding;
• National recognition in the field of Science Education;
• Evidence of consistently high-quality teaching;
• Demonstrated collegiality and collaboration at higher education levels and with public school communities;
• A commitment to educational and social equity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least three years of successful full-time K-12 classroom teaching experience in U.S. public schools;
• Experience in teaching and mentoring preservice and in-service science education teachers;
• Strong skills in technology integration;
• Experience in online teaching and learning environments.
