Clinical Training Specialist

The Clinical Trainer at California Retina Consultants plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing training programs for ophthalmic technicians and scribes within our organization.
Key Responsibilities:- Program Development: Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to assess training needs and develop tailored curricula for ophthalmic technicians and scribes.
- Design engaging and interactive training materials, including presentations, manuals, and multimedia content, to effectively convey key concepts and techniques.
- Train-the-Trainer Sessions: Lead train-the-trainer sessions to equip internal trainers with the knowledge, tools, and techniques necessary to deliver training programs effectively.
- Training Delivery: Deliver training sessions to ophthalmic technicians and scribes, both in-person and virtually, ensuring content is delivered effectively and training objectives are met.
- Skill Advancement: Offer ongoing support and mentorship to technicians and scribes, helping them enhance their skills and knowledge through continuous learning opportunities and development.
- Evaluation and Feedback: Establish evaluation criteria to assess the effectiveness of training programs and gather feedback from participants and stakeholders.
- Compliance: Stay updated on current and best practices, federal and state regulatory requirements, and practice systems advancements to ensure training programs are relevant and effective.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, work well with others, and alone with minimal supervision.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of material, methods, instruments, and equipment in ophthalmology with an accent on retina field.
- Knowledge of adult learning concepts.
- Experience in employee development and evaluation.
- Ability to be supportive and encourage growth.
- Ability to handle conflict resolution and hold staff accountable.
- A passion for developing successful teams.
- Knowledge of coding, HIPAA, and other charting regulatory requirements.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- 2+ years clinical experience working collaboratively with physicians, in a retina practice or ophthalmology setting.
- 1+ years as a senior technician and/or clinical trainer preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certified (OSC) certification through IJCAHPO is required; COA, COT, COMT is a plus.
- Certified Patient Service Specialist (CPSS) certification through BSM Consulting is required.
- Ophthalmic Coding Specialist (OCS) or Ophthalmic Coding Specialist Retina (OCS-Retina) through AAO preferred.
- Corporate Trainer Certified (CTC) preferred.
- Proficiency with Nextech Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and NextGen Practice Management software.
