Shift Details:
12-hour shifts
Unit Information:
This role requires RNs with experience in both Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) environments.
Proficiency in both areas is essential as you will be working in a larger hospital setting, ensuring a successful contract.
Unit Specifics:- Screening of non-emergent patients to community care clinics.
- Nurse Aides/Paramedics available: 2-3 per shift.
- Security/Patient sitters provided.
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd to 4th weekend.
- Holiday Coverage: Every other holiday.
- Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue.
- Telemetry/Monitor Technicians: Central monitoring tech available.
- Ventilator management handled in ER until admission.
- Physician/Mid-Level Support: 1 mid-level available 24/7.
- Lab Draws: Nurses perform their own.
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7, dedicated to ER.
- Shift Times: 6:45 AM, 6:45 PM, with some mid shifts at 11 AM and 3 PM.
- Orientation: Floor-specific orientation of 1-2 shifts based on comfort level.
Patient Demographics:
- Common diagnoses include: Pediatrics to geriatrics, trauma cases, neuro cases, orthopedic conditions, and CVA center patients.
- ESI triage training is required for floating between MICU, SICU, and CCU.
Charge Nurse Role:
- A charge nurse will be present in each unit, aiming to minimize staffing grid involvement.
- Flexibility required for weekend and holiday shifts.
Drip Management:
- Standard ICU drips utilized.
- Hospitalist or Intensivist available on-site during the day; NP in-house at night with an intensivist on call.
Floating Responsibilities:
- Floating within assigned pods or to step-down units as needed.
- Orientation for floating: 2 shifts.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong ICU skills and assessment capabilities are essential for this high-acuity environment.
- A well-rounded background in medical, surgical, and some cardiac care is necessary.
- Presentation of patients at interdisciplinary rounds is expected.
Compensation:
Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
