Critical Care Nurse Specialist

As a Critical Care Nurse Specialist at the University of Miami, you will be working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional patient care, ensuring the highest level of quality and compassion. To accomplish this, you will assess patients' conditions, evaluate treatment plans, and modify them as needed based on patients' responses and physician orders.

In addition to your clinical skills, you will also work closely with physicians, other healthcare professionals, and support staff to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Assessment and Planning: Conduct thorough assessments of assigned patients, including evaluations of their medical history, symptoms, and test results. Develop and implement individualized care plans that address patients' unique needs and goals.
- Patient Education: Provide clear and concise information to patients and their families regarding treatment options, medication regimens, and self-care activities. Foster a supportive environment that promotes positive outcomes and encourages patients to take an active role in their recovery.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with interprofessional teams to ensure seamless care transitions, effective communication, and optimal patient outcomes. Use various forms of communication (verbal, written, electronic) to share critical information with colleagues, physicians, and other stakeholders.
- Medication Administration and Management: Safely administer medications according to established protocols, policies, and procedures. Maintain accurate records related to medication administration, dosages, and side effects.
- Discharge Planning: Participate in discharge planning discussions to identify potential barriers and create personalized plans for patients' post-discharge needs. Collaborate with social services, home health agencies, and community resources to ensure smooth transitions.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor's degree (BSN) preferred. RNs hired with an Associates (ASN) degree have 2 years to complete the BSN degree.
- Certification and Licensing: Valid Florida Registered Nurse License, ACLS, BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
- Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures, in-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures, excellent patient experience skills, ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems, ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships, ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
