Position Overview:

The Project Cost Analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely accounting of our service projects. A key responsibility of this position is to monitor and report job costs effectively, while also streamlining the invoicing process. This role reports directly to the Controller of the Field Machining division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper setup of new projects within the accounting system.
  • Regularly review job progress and costs with project managers to verify accuracy and identify discrepancies from client quotes and purchase orders.
  • Proactively address job-related issues with project managers and management as necessary.
  • Prepare customized job reports as requested by project managers.
  • Keep the accounting team informed about invoicing tasks, including progress billing.
  • Assist colleagues in the preparation of customer invoices as needed.
  • Initiate and monitor capital purchase projects until completion.
  • Finalize customer projects upon completion of all related activities and archive final job revenues and costs in the project management system.
  • Support month-end closing activities, including revenue recognition, job margin reporting, and work-in-process reconciliation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in project accounting; experience in construction, manufacturing, professional services, or industries with complex job costing is preferred.
  • A strong desire to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in financial accounting systems and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Aptitude and willingness to suggest and implement process enhancements.
