About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard to join our team at the City of Carlsbad. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our patrons and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe and monitor the activities of swimmers in and around our public pools to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Rescue individuals in distress and provide first aid as needed.
  • Provide accurate information about our aquatic facilities and programs to patrons.
  • Assist in conducting special events and maintaining the operation of our aquatic facilities.
Requirements
  • Current certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (CPR-FPR) and Lifeguard Training.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of preventive lifeguarding, water rescues, first aid, and CPR.
  • Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance.
  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective course of action.
  • Ability to maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify signs of danger.
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One summer of part-time experience as a lifeguard.
  • Title 22 Certificate.
  • EMR Certificate.
  • Equivalent training certificates will be accepted if approved by the County of San Diego EMS authority.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time position that requires flexibility and availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, dependent upon seasonal program needs.
