Position Summary:
Aquatic Scientist

The Aquatic Scientist is tasked with overseeing all facets of the Life Sciences Division.

This role encompasses the adherence to departmental protocols, compliance with policies, and the execution of daily duties related to the upkeep and management of the animal collection.

This position also requires a commitment to delivering exceptional and personalized guest service that reflects the Company's brand standards and core values (K.E.E.P. – Kindness, Engagement, Empathy, and Positivity).


Golden Nugget is a premier hotel/casino located in a vibrant area, featuring a large shark tank, an artificial reef aquarium, and a holding exhibit.

The facility is recognized for its commitment to animal welfare and participates in ongoing conservation initiatives focused on daily animal care.

We proudly house over 80 distinct species from various regions around the globe.

Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care Excellence

Execute daily routines as per schedule.

Maintain comprehensive and accurate daily animal records in ZIMS Species 360.

Prepare daily diets and nutritional requirements for the animal collection.

Conduct daily water quality assessments of all exhibits using specialized equipment.

Perform minor maintenance on Life Support Systems as necessary.

Assist the Director and Curatorial staff with medical treatments and husbandry tasks as required.

Effective Communication

Engage with guests in a courteous and respectful manner during all interactions.

Participate in various public presentations, with or without animal involvement.

Report any animal-related concerns to the Curator / Life Sciences Manager.

Interact with dignitaries, professionals, special guests, and tours as directed.

Department Oversight

Monitor and help maintain departmental areas (and those outside your usual responsibilities) as instructed.

Communicate supply needs to the Director or Curatorial staff.

Ensure exhibit readiness for daily openings.

Conduct regular rounds to assess cleanliness and safety of work areas and equipment.

Qualifications:


To succeed in this role, an individual must be capable of performing the assigned duties and responsibilities.

The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Ability to SCUBA dive daily and complete a diving assessment on-site upon hiring.

Must be medically cleared by a physician for SCUBA diving prior to employment.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, structured environment.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, administrative, multitasking, organizational, and prioritization skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), fluent in English and articulate.

Ability to work independently and efficiently while consistently delivering quality results.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field is preferred.

A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a public aquarium setting, particularly with teleost and/or elasmobranch species, is preferred. Compensation will be determined based on experience level.

Must hold SCUBA certification with at least 20 logged hours of dive time (advanced certifications are preferred).


Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen Administration (or obtain certification within two weeks of hire).
