Water Distribution System Maintenance Technician I/II

We are seeking a highly skilled Underground Water Repair Specialist I/II to join our team at South Tahoe Public Utility. As a key member of our water distribution team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair work on our water system infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain, install, repair, and replace water lines and related components, including valves, fire hydrants, and water meters.
- Install new water mains, mainline valves, and water services, as well as lay and join pipe and install water blowoffs.
- Chlorinate new lines and perform disinfection procedures to ensure water quality meets state requirements.
- Break out, remove, and repair street pavement as needed.
- Operate and service water-related equipment, including hot tappers, line stopping equipment, and threading and cutting equipment.
- Operate trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, excavators, vacuum trucks, and other heavy equipment.
- Operate air compressors and associated tools, such as jackhammers and impact wrenches.
- Respond to calls for assistance and accept standby duty as needed.
- Adhere to and enforce stated safety policies and procedures.
- High school graduate or equivalent with ability to read and follow safety procedures and job-related instructions.
- Underground Water Repair I: One year of experience in water distribution system maintenance, construction, repair, and/or general maintenance work.
- Underground Water Repair II: Three years of experience in construction, repair, and maintenance work in a water distribution system, with some experience in directing an assigned crew.
- Valid Class A license and endorsements for Air Brakes, Tanker, and Towed Vehicle over 10,000 lbs.
- Certification as a Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator from the Department of Health Services, State of California, within 24 months of hire date.
- Training and certification in the operation of District forklifts, backhoes, and loaders.
- Traffic Control Technician and Flagger certification.
- Competent Person training for trenching and shoring, as required by Cal-OSHA.
- Medical, dental, and prescription coverage with premiums fully paid by the District for the employee and eligible dependents.
- Vision insurance through Vision Service Plan with no deductible and premiums fully paid by the District for the employee and eligible dependents.
- Life insurance with a $70,000 death benefit, with premiums paid in full by the District.
- Retirement plan through CalPERS with a 2% at 62 formula for PEPRA members and 2.7% at 55 for Classic Members.
