Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Physicist to join our team at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. As a key member of our Department of Radiation Oncology, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of radiation equipment, maintaining quality control records, and participating in the Medical Center's Radiation Safety Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper calibration of all radiation equipment in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
  • Maintain radiation survey equipment for the Medical Center.
  • Establish and review standards and procedures for radiation safety, including instruction of all appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor procedures related to handling of radioactive materials.
  • Perform initial and weekly patient chart checks and dose calculations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical norms for all age groups as applicable to job functions.
  • Act as staff liaison to Medical Chairperson of Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Participate in equipment evaluation and make recommendations to the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology and Director of Radiation Oncology.
  • Solve problems using creativity and teamwork while maintaining value-based behaviors.
  • Contour treatment fields and calculate treatment dose in treatment planning software (Varian Eclipse) under the prescription orders of the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Perform computer-aided dosimetry, including 3D and IMRT treatment planning and dose calculations for prescribed doses by Radiation Oncologists.
  • Maintain Quality Control records on radiation equipment.
  • Serve on the Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Oversee Radiology and Nuclear Medicine physics support.
  • Answer physics-related questions from outside sources.
Department Specific Competencies
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures.
  • Participate and lead special projects as necessary.
  • Participate and offer input on new equipment recommendations.
  • Participate in weekly chart rounds.
  • Participate in the quality assurance and safety of the department in support of the Radiation Safety program for all radiation matters (whether emergent or non-emergent).
  • Maintain a collaborative and effective working relationship with all staff.
  • Work with TMMC and other medical center departments to maintain proper treatment plans and dosimetry on radiation oncology patients.
Education and Experience

MS or PhD in Medical Physics is required. 3 years of clinical radiation oncology physics experience is preferred. American Board of Radiology Certified or Eligible (must be certified within 2 years of hire). Compensation range: $228,300-$392,080 annually.
