Position Overview

The Detroit Medical Center is looking for a skilled Tissue Processing Specialist to join our team.

Role Responsibilities

As a Tissue Processing Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the preparation and analysis of surgical and autopsy tissue samples for microscopic examination. Your duties will include:

  • Receiving and documenting tissue specimens, ensuring accurate processing and handling.
  • Conducting standard histological techniques such as embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • Performing advanced histotechniques, including immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.
  • Assisting pathologists with gross dissection and preparation of tissue samples.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring quality control measures are met.
  • Training and mentoring junior laboratory staff on procedures and best practices.
  • Participating in research projects and the development of new methodologies.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A high school diploma with two years of histotechnology training, or
  • An Associate of Science degree with relevant college coursework and one year of histotechnology training, or
  • A certificate from an accredited histotechnology program.
  • Registration as HTL (Histotechnologist) or HT (Histotechnician) through the ASCP is required.
