Utilities Maintenance Supervisor

Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Utilities Maintenance Supervisor to join our team at Hillsborough County. As a key member of our Public Utilities Department, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our water and wastewater distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the work of maintenance staff to ensure efficient and effective operation of utility systems.
- Develop and implement maintenance programs to prevent equipment failures and minimize downtime.
- Conduct regular inspections of utility systems to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Provide training and guidance to maintenance staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in utility maintenance and repair, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater distribution systems, including installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, other departments, and external stakeholders.
Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to work in a variety of outdoor and indoor environments, including confined spaces and manholes. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the environment is quiet to loud.
Physical Requirements:
The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear; and smell.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, and 5+ years of experience in utility maintenance and repair, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
Additional Requirements:
- Based on area of assignment, may require possession of a State of Florida Class I Distribution System Operator License.
- Based on area of assignment, possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) may be required within the probationary period.
Emergency Management Responsibilities:
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
