Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Optometrist to join our team at JWCH Institute, Inc. as a Vision Care Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive optometric care to patients, including routine vision and ocular examinations, prescribing corrective lenses and medical eye care, and managing ocular diseases and conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform routine vision and ocular examinations to provide appropriate corrective lenses and medical eye care.
  2. Prescribe necessary correction alternatives, including contact lenses and low vision devices.
  3. Use tests and procedures to detect and manage disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
  4. Order labs, testing, and imaging for the diagnosis of ocular and systemic-related ocular diseases or conditions.
  5. Diagnose, treat, and manage ocular diseases or conditions, referring to specialists as needed.
  6. Perform minor surgical procedures as permitted by State Law.
  7. Evaluate patients through ocular examination for the presence of diseases like diabetes and hypertension, referring patients to other healthcare providers as needed.
  8. Consult and train optometry students, medical students, interns, residents, nurse practitioners, and other related health professionals.
  9. Coordinate medical care of assigned patients.
  10. Consult with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and quality of medical and diagnostic work performed.
  11. Confers with the Director of Optometry on management issues.
  12. Promotes eye and general health by counseling patients.
  13. Participates in medical and services utilization audits, peer review, and quality assurance activities.
  14. Participate in JWCH's customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
Requirements
  1. Current California Optometric License.
  2. Current DEA Certificate.
  3. Current CPR Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  4. Must possess a valid California driver's license and ability to travel from site to site as needed.
  5. Experience in working with clients and staff from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  6. OD degree from an accredited School of Optometry.
  7. Must have a Nat'l Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date.
Preferred
  1. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
