Part-Time Speech to Text Specialist for the Deaf Community

Job Summary:

This part-time position involves providing speech-to-text services for students and staff with hearing impairments at the College of Southern Nevada. The successful candidate will be responsible for transcribing spoken English in real-time or conceptually, using approved software such as CART, TypeWell, or Dragon Diction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe spoken English in real-time or conceptually using approved software
  • Provide speech-to-text services for students and staff with hearing impairments
  • Develop and maintain a thorough dictionary for accurate and fluid translation
  • Effectively listen for continuity, sense, and detail while translating
  • Use advanced editing skills to work effectively with consumers and maintain confidentiality

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Current licensure or certification in speech-to-text software (e.g. TypeWell, CART, Dragon Diction)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the English language, including grammatical structures, syntax, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation
  • Industry-recognized code of ethics and general knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Culture

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work independently and make professional, autonomous decisions in a variety of educational situations. The successful candidate will be required to follow all institutional policies and procedures.

Salary Range:

$60.00 hourly (Speech to Text Direct Service), $110.00 hourly (CART), $20.00 hourly (Note Taker)
