Water Distribution Engineer Job Opportunity



The City of Scottsdale is seeking a skilled Water Distribution Engineer to join our team. This role involves leading a crew in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water lines in the distribution system and occasionally sewer lines in the collection system. As a Water Distribution Engineer, you will be responsible for performing skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water lines, including operating a backhoe or other equipment to excavate damaged water and sewer lines.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain, repair, replace, and add to the water distribution and transmission system pipes, valves, hydrants, laterals, and various other appurtenances.
  • Operate a backhoe or other equipment to excavate damaged water and sewer lines.
  • Determine the extent of damage to distribution and sewer lines and recommend proper repair methods.
  • Perform water main shutdowns and notify affected customers when water outages are necessary to perform system work.
  • Perform water line repair tapping and valve installation; tests water lines and refills trenches; repairs streets and sidewalks damaged during excavation.
  • Operate a high velocity sewer cleaning truck for excavation or line clearing.
  • Adjust manhole cover heights and perform sewer line and lateral repairs.
  • Train, evaluate, and direct employees in daily activities.
  • Observe and monitor data and personnel to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.
  • Communicate with citizens and staff members in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provide input into the employee evaluation process.
  • Submit reports on the performance of assigned Water Services Workers.
  • Stand in during the absence of a Water Services Worker V or Supervisor.


Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:


  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Two years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing a water distribution system; or one year of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing a water distribution system with one year of experience in plumbing construction, construction of other underground utilities, including gas, cable or electrical repair.
  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.
  • A Grade 2 operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the discipline of Water Distribution.
  • An Arizona Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with the Tanker endorsement.
  • Completion of a one-time training requirement that includes alcohol misuse training and controlled substance use training, in accordance with FMCSA regulation 49 CFR 382.603, within 60 days of hire.
  • Residency in the State of Arizona during active employment by the City.

Estimated Salary:

$71,432 - $85,912 per year, depending on experience.
