Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at Eastern Virginia Medical School. As a Nurse Clinician, you will play a critical role in coordinating ante partum fetal testing for high risk patients, providing education to staff and community, and assisting with research programs.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer the Triage line and record calls in a timely manner.
  • Recognize medical situations specific to Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Return Patient and Physician phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Correlate the patient's clinical history with fetal monitoring results and recognized signs and symptoms of maternal/fetal compromise.
  • Institute appropriate nursing actions for referral.
  • Perform ante partum fetal testing, including non-stress testing and contraction stress testing.
  • Determine the technical adequacy of each test and independently assess the appropriateness of each patient's testing based on established policies and protocols.
  • Recognize normal versus abnormal results and prepare accurate, readable reports of the test.
  • Contact physicians when necessary.
  • Assess health education needs of patients to provide ongoing evaluation of necessary instructions.
  • Provide a holistic approach in the care of all patients.
  • Coordinate additional care for ante partum patients, including follow-up testing or procedures, scheduling, physician's orders, and hospital admissions.
  • Maintain daily fetal testing schedules, testing forms, statistics, documentation, and collaboration with other healthcare providers to formulate a plan of care for the patient.
  • Assist with and maintain ongoing knowledge of billing and insurance protocols.
  • Provide education to other staff members regarding testing and care of high risk patients, act as a resource on ante partum fetal testing for the community and Outreach Programs, to include Women's Health Pavilion.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, Women's Health Pavilion, and Maternal Fetal Medicine regarding patient's care.
  • Actively participate in research through data collection and development of ideas.
  • Serve as public relations representative to the community.
  • Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care, including validation of skill level by passing both verbal and written tests administered by Nursing Supervisor.
  • Promote the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the School and the Department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude, and behavior towards co-workers, patients, and guests.
  • Attendance, as assigned, is essential to meeting required performance duties.
  • Maintain surgery schedules.
  • Sustain the quality assurance of patient charts.
  • Monitor clinical supply levels for the entire facility and place orders when needed.
  • Perform venipuncture tasks.
  • Complete patient's FMLA and disability forms.
  • Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred. Minimum one year clinical experience caring for patients with high risk obstetric patients and minimum one year experience in fetal monitoring preferred. Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
