Position Overview

The Senior Technical Engineer at GEICO collaborates with our engineering teams to conceptualize and develop innovative systems, enhance existing frameworks, and explore new avenues for leveraging technical expertise to address critical challenges. You will spearhead the formulation and implementation of a technical strategy that accelerates product delivery and unlocks new engineering capabilities. Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Technical Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing technical and strategic leadership across multiple domains within the organization
  • Working closely with product managers, team members, clients, and other engineering divisions to tackle complex issues
  • Designing and executing a comprehensive software development strategy across various sectors
  • Ensuring the quality, usability, and performance of all solutions developed
  • Utilizing programming languages such as Python, C#, and other object-oriented languages, as well as SQL and NoSQL databases, along with Container Orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes, and a range of Azure services
  • Serving as a mentor and role model, enhancing the technical skills and knowledge of our engineering and product teams while influencing executive decisions
  • Sharing best practices consistently and refining processes across teams
  • Conducting cost analysis and forecasting to inform business strategies
  • Assessing resource needs, evaluating operational workflows, measuring outcomes to ensure success, and promoting continuous learning
Qualifications
  • Exceptional capability to design, conduct experiments, and influence engineering strategies and product direction
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams and transitioning research into production
  • Proven track record of publications in reputable conferences and journals
  • Familiarity with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code methodologies
  • Thorough understanding of computer science data structures and algorithms
  • Proficient in resolving analytical challenges using quantitative methods
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic, startup-like environment
  • Knowledgeable in developer tools throughout the software development lifecycle (task management, source control, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
  • Fluent in at least two modern programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or C#, with a focus on object-oriented design
  • Experienced in microservices architecture and developing extensible REST APIs
  • Skilled in architecting and designing both new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scalability)
  • Proficient in DevOps principles, Cloud Architecture, and the Azure DevOps Operational Framework
  • Experienced in PowerShell scripting
  • Familiar with operational portals such as Azure Portal
  • Knowledgeable in application monitoring tools and performance evaluation
  • In-depth understanding of data center structures, capabilities, and offerings, particularly the Azure platform and its native services
  • Familiar with security protocols and products, including Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, and OAuth
  • Experienced in Azure Networking (Subscription, Security zoning, etc.)
Experience
  • Over 10 years of professional software development experience within a Java framework (J2EE, web containers, and Java)
  • More than 8 years of experience in architecture and design
  • At least 6 years of experience with open-source frameworks
  • 4+ years of experience with cloud services such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or experience

Annual Salary
$82,261,500.00
This salary range serves as a general guideline. Various factors are considered to determine the final hourly rate or annual salary for the selected candidate, including the role's scope and responsibilities, the candidate's experience, education, training, work location, and market conditions.
