Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Character Ambassador/Events Team Member to join our Events and Promotions Team at the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences through meet-and-greets, events, and promotions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform as a costume character ambassador/guide during on-site and off-site promotional events.
  • Assist in the set-up, implementation, and clean-up of all Events and Promotions Happenings.
  • Drive golf carts to transport guests to and from Zoo locations during events.
  • Work a flexible schedule including weekends, weekdays, evenings, and holidays as necessary.
  • Function as a strong team member in the Events and Promotions Department, assisting other areas and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Creatively engage guests through a variety of hands-on activities, including leading interactive games, creating positive crowd participation, and promoting zoo events to our guests/patrons.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Computer knowledge/skills.
  • Detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills.
  • Previous experience in children's theatre, recreation, education, costume character performance, or related job is helpful but not required.
  • Able to handle the demands of working in full-body costume, including working in very hot conditions, moving freely with limited peripheral vision in an oversized costume.
  • Must be between 50 and 58 inches in height.
  • Weight must be proportionate to height, to be able to fit in required costumes.
  • Able to balance multiple assignments successfully.
  • Able to work in varied weather conditions, including extreme heat and rain.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards required.
  • Able to maintain courteous and helpful behavior.
  • Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance.
  • Able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
