Job Summary

An Inclusion Support Counselor works with individuals of varied ages and disabilities in existing recreational programs offered by the City of Ballwin Parks and Recreation department. Responsibilities vary based upon each participant's needs, but can range from one-on-one support for a program participant to assistance as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate participation and socialization in program activities, as needed per participant's disability.
  • Adapt the environment, rules, and teaching methodologies to meet individual needs.
  • Provide one-on-one support and assistance as needed.
  • Interact with and work as a team-player with program participants, their families, peers, and staff.
  • Develop a rapport with program participants and staff.
  • Provide a safe and fun environment for all.
Requirements
  • Ability to act quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to participate at a high level of energy for a long period of time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. objects.
  • Maintain a professional and mature attitude toward responsibilities, fellow staff, and parents.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Attaining a degree in Parks and Recreation, Education, or a related field.
  • Prior work experience with children.
  • Prior customer service experience, leadership, and/or staff supervision experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a professional working relationship with parents and children involved with the programs.
