Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Preconstruction Estimator to lead our preconstruction process from initial project conception to the commencement of construction activities. As a key member of our team, you will coordinate and manage preconstruction activities, including collaborating with project stakeholders, estimating costs, developing budgets, analyzing project feasibility, and providing valuable input to support project decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preconstruction process, ensuring all parties are held accountable and the preconstruction schedule is maintained.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to accurately determine material, labor, and other project costs.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets, considering factors such as market trends, labor rates, and material prices.
  • Coordinate and lead preconstruction meetings to align stakeholders and ensure clear communication of project goals.
  • Participate in interviews and sales discussions with owners and architects, representing the company in a professional manner.
  • Manage the design-build MEP trades through the preconstruction process.
  • Procure subcontractor quotes and ensure adequate coverage pre-bid, qualifying vendors and subcontractors post-bid day to determine cost effectiveness.
  • Implement value-engineering techniques to maximize project value while minimizing costs, collaborating with design and engineering teams to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Lead and mentor preconstruction teams, including estimators, planners, and other professionals, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment to promote teamwork and innovation.
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation, presenting project estimates and budgets to clients and other stakeholders.
  • Provide estimates for self-performed work and maintain job cost accounting records on projects with close similarities.
  • Determine critical path schedule and sequence of work as needed.
  • Follow up on project leads and work to procure new business, building and maintaining customer contact for long-term relationships.
  • Oversee the completion and submittal of Prequalification Statements.
Requirements

  • Education: Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent relevant construction experience required.
  • Experience/Knowledge: 3+ years of estimating experience; estimating experience in a general contractor environment preferred. Proven experience in preconstruction management or related roles within the construction industry. Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), Project Management Professional (PMP), or similar credentials are advantageous.
