Position Overview:
The Lactation Nurse Specialist is responsible for overseeing lactation management initiatives and delivering expert nursing care in the realm of lactation support to patients and their families. This role includes the provision of initial and ongoing lactation education for obstetrical personnel and other members of the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate lactation management activities.
- Provide skilled nursing care in lactation management.
- Educate obstetrical staff and healthcare team members on lactation practices.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution and have a minimum of two years of experience in maternal and newborn care. Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or as a Breastfeeding Counselor with plans to obtain IBCLC certification is required. A Maryland Registered Nurse License and American Heart Association BLS Certification are also necessary. The IBCLC certification must be achieved within six months to one year of employment. A total of three to five years of nursing experience is essential.
