Overview

This Practical Nursing Specialist role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration, focusing on delivering exceptional care to Veterans in a community living setting. The position emphasizes support for individuals undergoing extended medical treatment and rehabilitation, encompassing assistance with daily living activities, advanced nursing care, and specialized support for cognitive impairments. The primary objective of this role is to enhance each Veteran's quality of life, promote health stability, and ensure comfort during critical phases of care.

Position Responsibilities

The Practical Nursing Specialist will engage in various essential duties, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting thorough assessments and implementing interventions focused on health enhancement, wound management, and comprehensive patient evaluations.
  • Prioritizing patient care requirements and collaborating with healthcare teams to communicate any significant changes in patient status.
  • Administering prescribed medications and performing complex medical procedures as necessary.
  • Supporting healthcare providers during diagnostic evaluations and collecting necessary specimens for analysis.
  • Recognizing and acting upon emergency situations, initiating life-saving protocols while awaiting further assistance.
  • Documenting all patient interactions and assessments accurately in the electronic health record system.
  • Providing mentorship to junior nursing staff and unlicensed personnel.
  • Executing additional responsibilities as assigned.


Work Schedule: This position may require flexibility in scheduling, including day and night shifts, with weekend and holiday rotations.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Shift differentials for evening and night shifts.
  • Weekend and holiday pay enhancements.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
  • A diploma from an accredited practical or vocational nursing program.
  • A valid and unrestricted nursing license.
