Nursing Extern - Patient Care Unit

Boulder Community Health is actively seeking a dedicated Nursing Extern to join our team. This role is designed for nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program, providing essential support to our healthcare professionals and enhancing departmental efficiency.

Compensation: $19.80 per hour - Per Diem, with various hours and shifts available each week.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
  • Completion of the first year of a two-year nursing program, or the third year of a four-year baccalaureate nursing program, or equivalent for accelerated programs. Clinical rotations in a Medical/Surgical unit are required.
  • Documentation of completed courses and competencies from the first year of nursing school is necessary.
  • CNA certification or equivalent is preferred.

Equivalent certifications include:
  • EMT, MA, Military Medic, or completion of the first year of nursing core classes (not prerequisites for nursing school).
  • BLS certification is required by the end of the conditional period.

Responsibilities:
  • Foster a culture of patient safety and collaborate with other departments to achieve core measures and best practice initiatives.
  • Identify personal learning needs and enhance knowledge through clinical practice and self-directed learning.
  • Promote Service Excellence and ensure compliance with hospital, division, and departmental policies.
  • Understand organization and department-specific care policies, including life safety, utilities management, hazardous material communication, emergency preparedness, infection prevention, and medical equipment failure.
  • Implement interventions based on the Plan of Care, prioritizing patient needs and desired outcomes, in accordance with guidelines and agency policies.
  • Complex assignments will be assigned based on demonstrated competencies, with the ability to perform selected procedures under the supervision of an RN/LPN.
