Urologist Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Urologist to join our team at the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will provide a full range of urology services to our patients, including surgical procedures, consultations, and follow-up care. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform urological surgical procedures, including related admission, consultation, and work-up, preoperative and postoperative care.
- Make preliminary diagnoses, direct treatment, and arrange for specialized care or patient referral as required.
- Provide comprehensive urologic care, including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services.
- Perform procedures in the urology clinic, such as cystoscopy and prostate biopsies.
- Perform robotic and non-robotic urologic procedures in the operating room.
- Manage patients during their inpatient course, using consultants when appropriate, and perform inpatient consultations on patients from other services.
- Conduct outpatient clinics, review patients' medications, diet, course of therapy, adherence to management plan, and patient observations.
- Serve as a consultant to primary care physicians and accept referrals and outpatient consultations from other providers.
- Refer patients as appropriate, work closely with allied health professionals, and participate in the Surgical Department Quality Assurance and Peer Review programs.
- Actively participate in Emergency and On-Call schedule.
- Establish professional working relationships with other clinical service providers within the center and outlying Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), providing telephone and e-consultations, consultations as needed, and screening consults that are received for appropriateness prior to scheduling.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must have a degree in Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine.
- Must be board certified in Urology.
- Completion of residency training.
- Must have an active and unrestricted license in any of the US States.
The Department of Veteran Affairs offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including:
- Pay: $350,000 - $400,000 per year.
- Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Approved.
- Paid-Time Off: 50–55 days of annual paid-time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year, and possible 5 day paid absence for CME).
- Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401k with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
- Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
- CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement.
- Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
- Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.
The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS), located in Tucson, Arizona, is a Joint Commission-accredited, level 1a complexity teaching hospital, providing tertiary-level care. The SAVAHCS offers a beautiful 150-acre campus with a full range of medical and mental health services for Veterans, including a 31-bed inpatient psychiatry/substance use acute treatment unit, a 25-bed mental health residential rehabilitation treatment program for substance use disorders (SUD) and PTSD treatment, intensive outpatient programs for SUD and PTSD, homeless programs, and more. The SAVAHCS operates a 24-hour emergency department and is the host site for various regional referral centers of excellence, including the Polytrauma Network Site, the Southwest Blind Rehabilitation Center, and the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP). The SAVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Annually, nearly 1,000 physician and associated health trainees participate in health care training programs at the SAVAHCS.
