Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional patient care by greeting patients, escorting them to examination or treatment rooms, and measuring vital signs.
  • Assist with procedures, prepare patient, equipment, and room, and report any problems to physicians, nurses, or managers.
  • Collect and label specimens, deliver them to the laboratory, and pick up chemotherapy drugs and blood products as needed.
  • Document medical instructions, treatments, prescriptions, and telephone calls in the electronic medical record.
  • Serve as a resource to unit staff on protocol requirements and sequencing for lab tests and X-ray procedures.
  • Enter incoming and outgoing lab work/results, record in-house laboratory results, and maintain current lab reports filed in the electronic medical record.
  • Escorts patients to and from exam and/or treatment areas, rest rooms, and assists patients with urinals, bedpans, or incontinent pads.
  • Maintain equipment, clean and disinfect equipment and exam rooms according to policy and procedure, and notify the engineering department of equipment defects or damage.
  • Maintain inventory in exam rooms, laboratory, and other clinical areas, order supplies, and enter charges.
  • Respond to patient telephone calls, provide information and instructions as necessary, and assist office staff with scheduling and confirming appointments.
  • Contribute to meeting fluctuating staffing needs by being flexible in assignments and work schedules.
  • Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development.

Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Enrollment in or completion of an accredited medical assistant training program. Knowledge of general medical terminology required. BLS required.

Experience: 1-2 years related experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinic setting preferred; phlebotomy skills preferred; computer experience required.

Licensure: Current Medical Assistant Certification (American Association of Medical Assistants or National Healthcareer Association preferred) or completion within 1 year of hire.

Skills: Good computer skills, highly organized and self-motivated, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to take direction from several individuals, evaluate and prioritize duties, work responsibly and independently.
